Study Tour provides export-oriented enterprises with insights into DHL’s express system

As part of the Improving Small Package e-Trade for SMEs (SeT4SME) project, the ongoing study tours continue to provide export-oriented SMEs insights into the postal and express delivery systems in Cambodia. The latest study tour was conducted at DHL Express Cambodia.

The study tour to DHL Express on June 21st played an important role in efforts by the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation and implementing partner Swisscontact to strengthen SMEs’ capacity through technical assistance, training, online and offline visits and exchanges to selected institutions in Cambodia and across the region.

Mr. Sok Kha, Team Leader of the SeT4SME Project

"We hope that the participating SMEs benefits from today's program, in terms of promoting your readiness for cross-border e-trade and be more able to seize the opportunities in global e-commerce markets."

A key part of the overall project involves raising awareness of international e-commerce opportunities and the available logistics for their cross-border e-commerce activities. This includes providing practical information on the rules and procedures governing trade in small packages using the postal service and express shipments and creating opportunities to meet leading service providers responsible for sending small packages overseas. SMEs and postal officials comprised the majority of the 40 participants. They were joined by three Swisscontact facilitators and CWEA members.

Mr. Prayag Chitrakar , Country Manager DHL Express Cambodia

"Through this study tour, we aim to share how DHL can work with SMEs through information sharing and guidance to enhance their understanding on logistics and international shipment. We would like SMEs joining today to get involved in the study tour by asking any questions or inquiries they have on small packages and how they can bring their products internationally. As SMEs development is important to DHL, today we hope that the event with CWEA and Swisscontact will be a fruitful one."

The study tour to DHL served to introduce SMEs to DHL Express and its services and the implication for the small package exports. SMEs in attendance also had the opportunity to learn about Express operation and received a walking tour to observe the handling of packages while also facilitating discussion and exchange between SMEs and DHL staffs.

Seng Takakneary, Managing Director of SentoSaSilk

"It is an exciting opportunity for me to join the study tour at DHL Express as I believe this can be beneficial for my business in the ways that I am more knowledgeable on export information include fees and procedures. This also makes it easier for me to expand my market as I know more about shipping information, which I can explain to my customers of the procedures and requirements."

The first study tour successfully looked at the postal system in Cambodia, the second study tour provided insights into the express system. Following this, the project also plans to facilitate an oversea study tour for selected CWEA members to learn about cross-border e-commerce and associated IT portal, e-business matching with oversea businesses. These tours will also prepare the beneficiaries towards the next objective, represented by a mentorship program running for 3 months in the first half of 2022.
